Greater Kansas City is increasingly diverse in its cultural makeup, and unique challenges arise from this growing cultural diversity. One such challenge is the provision of culturally competent health services and goods.

The 2010 Cross-Cultural Competency in Healthcare Symposium seeks to equip and mobilize regional healthcare students, professionals, and community leaders to effectively bridge cultural barriers in providing healthcare services and goods to culturally diverse populations found in the Greater Kansas City area.

Assuring quality healthcare for diverse populations is imperative for policymakers, community leaders, healthcare administrators, physicians, physician extenders, nurses, allied health, social workers, and auxiliary staff.

At the completion of this symposium participants will be able to:

* Identify culture and poverty as a precursor to health outcome
* Implement CLAS Standards
* Employ clinical care with cultural sensitivity
* Construct and implement a cultural assessment into practice
* Implement tools to support health literacy in culturally and linguistically diverse patient populations.
