On behalf of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Chapter of the Student National Medical Association, I am pleased to invite all pre-medical students to the 2008 SNMA Region V Annual Meeting and Conference, November 14-16, 2008. This year’s conference, which is themed “Building Bridges: Forging New Relationships in Medicine,” will offer numerous workshops and lectures which challenge participants to expand their perspective on the role of the physician and promote partnerships which enhance patient care, health policy, and biomedical advancement. A subset of these workshops and lectures will be specifically targeted to pre-medical students and will feature topics such as the medical school applicantion process, clinical skill simulation, and others.

In addition to workshops and lectures, a recruitment fair will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, November 15th, which will feature representatives from numerous residency programs, medical schools, and other relevant exhibitors.

Saturday afternoon’s luncheon will feature Linda Bradley, M.D., an internationally recognized gynecologic surgeon known for her expertise in diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, alternatives to hysterectomy, hysteroscopic sterilization and the evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding. She is currently the Director of The Fibroid and Menstrual Disorders Center and Director of Hysteroscopic Services at the Cleveland Clinic.

Edward Barksdale, Jr., M.D., is the keynote speaker for Saturday evening’s banquet. Dr. Barksdale is a well-known pediatric surgeon with special interest in in-utero malformations and short bowel syndrome. He is the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

In addition to the abundant professional development opportunities, a welcome reception will be held on Friday evening and various social activities will be offered for Saturday night.
